Geology and Earth Science

An undergraduate geology and earth sciences degree allows students to study the Earth’s structure, processes, materials, and history, and to understand the natural forces that shape our planet. It provides a strong foundation in geoscience principles while offering opportunities to specialise in areas such as volcanology, hydrogeology, environmental geoscience, and petroleum geology.

Entry Requirements

A Levels

  • AAA – BBB
  • Biology required
  • Chemistry required or strongly preferred by most universities
  • Physics or Mathematics may be accepted as a third subject

IB Diploma

  • 32–36 points overall
  • Higher Level: 6,5,5 or 6,6,5
  • Biology at Higher Level required
  • Chemistry at Higher Level preferred

International Foundation Pathway

  • Foundation in Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or Health Sciences
  • Progression requirement: 65–70% overall, with strong grades in Biology and Chemistry

Btech Qualifications

  • Extended Diploma at D*DD – DDD in Applied Science
  • Must include strong Biology and Chemistry content
  • Some universities require an accompanying A-level in Biology or Chemistry

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5–7.0 overall, with no band below 6.0
  • TOEFL : 90–100 overall
  • PTE Academic: 62–70 overall
  • Exemptions apply if prior study was completed in English or applicant is from a UKVI-recognised English-speaking country
